Many of you would know that intergenerational activities provide multiple benefits for seniors, but surely, one of its greatest positive impact is the level of joy it brings.
Moral Home of the Aged Sick (Moral Home) witnessed these benefits first-hand when their nursing home was paired with four nearby PAP Community Foundation (PCF) Sparkletots Preschools earlier this year.
Although face-to-face visits were not yet possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their nursing home continued to partner the preschools virtually, conducting activities such as:
1. Performances from the Preschoolers
2. Exercise Sessions led by the Preschoolers
3. Festive Celebrations
4. Birthday Celebrations
5. Art and Craft activities
A representative from the home said, “It felt like our residents were interacting with their own grandchildren and the preschoolers exude so much positive vibes, it really made their day.”
A resident from the home shared, “I love seeing the children, they make me smile with their innocent statements and questions. We are always looking forward to seeing them again.”
Moral Home currently runs these intergenerational activities every month, rotating between the four PCF Sparkletots Preschools.
This programme is part of Agency for Integrated Care - AIC Singapore's collaboration with PCF under the AIC Wellness Programme, and aims to foster regular intergenerational bonds between seniors in the Community Care sector and preschools.
Aside from this, AIC also participates in the nationwide ‘Start Small Dream Big’ under the Early Childhood Development Agency where we partner Community Chest to match more preschools to Community Care organisations (CCOs). To date, some 62 CCOs have been matched with 190 preschools in total for the two intergenerational initiatives.
